Camp NaNoWriMo

Hi, guys! It's Alex and I just figured I should write a small post about Camp NaNoWriMo.
For those of you who don't know, NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month and it is in November. During the month, you'll have to try to write 50.000 words, which also means you'll have to try to write an Entire novel in a month! Well, to me this sounded really cool since I love writing and I am tired of starting projects but never getting to finish them because I just get bored. So I decided to give it a try! But exactly in November as you may have noticed.. I can't participate in NaNoWrimo in November so I'm participating in Camp NaNoWriMo that is basically the same thing but in two different moths: April and July. In Camp you can also set your own word count goal and you don't need to write a novel, you can write  whatever you want as soon as you reach your goal. So, my word count goal will be only 25.000 words because I will lose 5 days of writing since for the next week I'll be on holidays with my school and I won't be able to write.

Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater

Hey there! It's Lizzy here, and I know it's been a while, but today I have a book review for you! The book I'm reviewing is "Shiver" by Maggie Stiefvater. I have a controversial opinion about it, because I liked and didn't like it at the same time. Weird, right? Well, the thing is, I like the general idea of the book, but I don't like the way it was developed that much.

"Shiver" tells us the story of a young girl named Grace, and also the story of her boyfriend, Sam, who happens to be a werewolf. However, he's not the kind of werewolf that can change between human and wolf form whenever he wants to. During the colder months, he has to be the wolf he's destined to be (we'll get on the why later on...) and through Spring and Summer he can stay human. Nevertheless, wanting to be with Grace for as long as possible, they try to delay his transformation for the longest period of time they're able to. And while doing that, they also have to stop a recently transformed werewolf from causing chaos among humans. This new wolf thinks that there's a cure for the "disease" which causes their transformation, and the reason he thinks that brings us back to one of our main characters, Grace. Grace was bitten by a wolf when she was only 5 years old or so, and this wolf was trying to kill her when Sam saves her from imminent death. As she didn't die, she would eventually change into a werewolf, which actually never happened, and no one knows why.

This is what happens with the plot along the book, and now I think I'm left to say why I didn't like the way the story is built:

As I already said, I like the whole werewolf thing, and I also think that the complementary ideas the author had were good, but I didn't like that the story kind of led to nowhere... Please notice this is only my opinion, you might have a totally different one and that's perfectly fine. But I think that if the story was built differently, maybe with a little bit more of action through it, I would have enjoyed it a lot better. 

Alex's opinion on the book:
I've read this book a long time ago and I didn't like it at all. I can't really remember the plot, I just remember thinking it was really weird, but in a bad way. The whole disease thing was very confusing to me and the characters were very boring and difficult to relate to. The book moved at a rather slow pace for me, like Lizzy said, there wasn't a lot of action. The main characters, Sam and Grace, were very annoying to me and I just hated to read their POV's. For me, this just wasn't the right book.
But, as Lizzy also pointed out, this is just my opinion and feel free to read the book and have a different one! Also, don't forget to comment and follow and share your thoughts on this book or on the blog in general!
