Divergent Movie Review

Hi, everyone! It's Alex and Lizzy! Yes, we are together and we decided to change our blog's design and write a post to celebrate it! Hope you like our new design.
So, about two or three weeks ago, we and some friends went to see the Divergent movie premiere. We were hoping that they had done a good job since we were about to see the book-to-movie adaptation of one of our favourite books of all time, and let us tell, it was phenomenal! It wasn't perfect, obviously, because that's quite impossible, there were some issues, but it was pretty good. It's right below Catching Fire, and that is the second movie so we cannot hope to see what they'll do with Insurgent. If you haven't seen it, go see it now! We mean, right now! Just grab your keys and wallet and phone and go to a theatre and watch it! Now!
And then, of course, come back and read the rest of the post (we don't want to spoil anything) and tell us what you thought!

If  You Haven't Seen Divergent, Come Back Later!

So, bad things first, there were some incoherencies  in the end. The serum they take at the end is not explored very well, and it is not like the one from the book. In this new serum, people are very open to suggestions, however when Tris calls Will and asks him to stop or else she'll shoot, he doesn't stop because he has orders to kill her. But then, when she injects Jeanine with the serum, Tris is able to control her by telling her what to do. The serum that Jeanine is injected with is the same as Will's, so why is their behaviour any different?
There were some scenes that everyone wanted to see, like the butter knife scene when Peter stabs Edward in the eye, or when Peter pulls Tris' towel, or even the scene where Tris beats up Molly. And then, there were also a few characters that weren't developed very much, like Peter, Al, Molly and Will. Peter and Molly weren't as aggressive as they are in the book, and Al and Will are not a big presence in the movie. In the scene where Peter, Al and Drew try to push Tris off the Chasm, the only person that we see is Al, so we don't get that tension that grows between Tris and Peter.
Ant then, we have tons of characters that are not in the movie! Like Uriah, Lynn, Marlene, Drew, Edward, Maya, Zeke, Shauna, and so on. Some of them are mentioned but don't exactly appear and we kind of missed them.
But now, onto the good things.
This movie had a really good world development, we were with some friends that haven't read the book and they understood it all. The scenarios, the outfits and the tattoos were fantastic and the scenes were overall really good.
The actors were fantastic. We weren't too keen on Theo James nor on Shailene Woodley, but as soon as we saw them, they were Tris and Four. Kate Winslet was obviously amazing and all of the other actors and actresses were fantastic too. Maggie Q, the main actress in Nikita (one of our favourite TV shows) was in the movie as Tori. The first time we saw her, we were like: "Michael and Alex are going to show up and blow everything up, and Nikita will have to do something to complete the mission!" (By the  way, if you're not into Nikita, Michael and Alex and the co-protagonists). But then, she stopped being Nikita and became Tori, and it was perfect.
We appreciated that Neil Burger didn't change the main plot and tried to stick true to the book, and we were also ok with the alternative ending, which wasn't perfect as we've said before, but was also very good.
Overall, it was a really good movie and we dare to say it actually made us feel Dauntless, wanting to jump out of moving trains, go zip-lining and play Capture the Flag. We felt like we were inside of the story, watching everything through Tris' eyes. And that's a really important point to think about when producing a movie.
So, we hope you've liked the movie, please tell us your thoughts on it (and if you like our new design :) and don't forget to share it and subscribe!
Till next time, goodbye!

Alex and Lizzy
