Ruby Red, by Kerstin Gier

Hi everyone!!!
As promised, today we ( and yes, we :) ) are posting a book review.
We are going to talk about...  * drum roll, please *... the amazing and extraordinary Ruby Red, by the also amazing and extraordinary Kerstin Gier. As she is German, I (Alex) like to pronounce her last name like this: Gierrrrr (like a cat) :)
As you've probably noticed, this is one of our favourite books and of course we are going to talk about it. We are going to fangirl a lot, so don't freak out, please! For quite a while, we've been wanting to do a book review about this one, but we just never had the chance to do it. So here it goes:
This book tells the story of Gwendolyn, a sixteen year-old girl who discovers she can travel through time. Technically, her cousin, Charlotte, was the who was suppose to do so, due to an old family gene that passed from generation to generation. Charlotte's birth date coincided with Newton's ( yes, the Isaac Newton) calculations about the birth date of the Twelfth and last time traveller. However, Gwen's was forged by her parents because they wanted to protect her and make sure she had a normal childhood, so, after all, Gwen was born on the same day as Charlotte. She, on the other hand, had a very demanding childhood. She had to learn hundreds of things about the past, like History, manners, dances, swordplay and a lot more, so she could fit in any age. She was taught in Temple where a secret time travelling agency guarded a Chronograph, which is a machine that controls the time travels. The Chronograph holds a very powerful secret and it will only be revealed when it gathers a blood sample of all the time travellers. Gideon de Villiers is the other time traveller and he has been gathering blood samples since he could travel through time.
Sixteen years ago, before Gwen was born, the Chronograph was stolen by Paul de Villiers and Lucy Montrose, two time travellers who believed the secret shouldn't be revealed, forcing Falk de Villiers, the Great Master of  Temple, to  fix a broken Chronograph left by Gwen's grandfather, the "ex- Great Master".
Gwen and Gideon accidentally fall in love, which is forbidden because the time travellers can't date each other, we have no idea why. They just can't. Maybe they have mentioned why in the book but we honestly don't remember.
We loved everything about this book, literally everything. Gwen is the best main character you could ever ask for! She's funny, she's smart, she's pretty and she's always in a very good mood. Charlotte, on the other hand, is that annoying cousin who's perfect and who thinks she owns the world, so she's cold, mean, altive and egocentric towards everyone except her mother, Lady Arista (her grandmother), Gideon and the people at Temple. Gideon de Villiers is the most gorgeous character in the book! He is handsome but, like Charlotte, he's vain, egocentric and terribly mean around Gwen. But still, he's cute, and no one can deny that! Through the book, he gets a little bit more human and actually ends up being nice to Gwen. Leslie is Gwen's best friend and she's basically the best friend's role model, everyone wants to have a best friend like her! Thankfully, we have that!!! Leslie's really smart and funny and she loves Gwen. She believes in everything she says and helps her anywhere and anytime. We love her :)
And last, but not least we want to introduce you to James Pimplebottom (who has the best last name in the whole world!), and he is actually a ghost who lives at Gwen's school. Gwen can see ghosts, but she doesn't understand why. Nevertheless, she loves James (as a friends, of course). He's very polite and he's always correcting Gwen since he's from the eighteenth century, where manners weren't the same as nowadays, by far. He also has a thing for Charlotte, which is one of the funniest things in the book, considering Charlotte can't see him at all.
Anyway, this post has gone far too big, we're sorry for that but we just got into it and we want you to love it too. Just give it a try, it's a very easy book to read, it's funny, it's fresh, it's lovely and it's wanting for you at the store! So go buy it NOW, before someone gets their hands on it first!!!!
And then of course, leave a comment telling us what you thought about it, if you loved it or not. And don't forget to follow us, we're waiting!!!

Kisses from Alex and Lizzy! :)

See you on our next post ;)
